We had a very bad experience with CIA (CYBERSURF or 3WEB) which led ultimately to a court case that we won. Unbeknownst to us,  during this time they sold to a company called DISTRIBUTEL. Even though we won the case, it turns out that Quebec law in small claims court has no teeth so with our judgement in hand, they told us ‘now go fish’.  We knew DISTRIBUTEL had a contingency fund set aside for cases such as ours, but since they know the law is useless in this case, they refused to pay. So now we have to spend our money to get a lawyer to fight our case with the end result that it will cost us more than we won and to add insult to injury, DISTRIBUTEL is soliciting us for our business. So once again, lawyers win, judges get paid, CYBERSURF gets off the hook and who is left holding the bag? The little guy.  Â

For those of you who have been unfortunate enough to get entangled in a never ending mess with 3Web/CIA supposedly fast speed Internet service, there’s hope for you. We had a 3 month ordeal with this company - they had our credit card and we were powerless.  Two years later we ended up going to court and we won a $7,000.00 judgement against them.  So there is hope for you.Â

Dear Miranda,
I broke my own rule (about not going to movies with violence) last night and went to see “Blood Diamond”. I thought the story was worth seeing, but I spent most of the 2 hours with my head buried in my jacket because of the brutality depicted. However, it was worth it because the facts about the way diamonds are mined should be known and it wasn’t just the usual dose of gratuitous violence…nor did the leading man and lady even so much as play ‘kissy face’ which is highly unusual in today’s movies. Leonardo di Caprio was really excellent in his performance. He’s never been a favorite actor of mine…I found him almost too ‘delicate’ in looks to take seriously, but he seems to have beefed up and grown out of his boyishness and was superb in the part - as were all the actors. Very poignant. Definitely worth seeing.
I’ve decided to cancel our newspaper delivery. Even though I hardly have time, I’m compelled to read it to see what’s going on in the world, and then halfway through I notice that I’m talking to myself out loud and my blood pressure is taking a spike! One of today’s items - December 21/06 - was about the US forces cedeing control of Southern Najaf to Iraqi police and soldiers who then marked the occassion with a parade, martial arts demonstrations and wait for it….the tearing apart of a live rabbit!…It went on to say they also bit the heads of live frogs. This is a credible newspaper, so I have to assume there’s truth to it even though I find it hard to grasp this kind of primitivness still exists.
While I deplore the act and the barbarity of it, it’s more puzzling to me about what enjoyment men get from performing this type of thing. And why does an animal always have to die when humans celebrate something? What’s good for humans is usually bad for animals. Hunting is another example of puzzling behaviour. I can accept that animals will be killed by humans or other animals, but why does someone - a supposedly ’superior being’ find so much pleasure in blasting the crap out of something just minding it’s own business?
That’s it. Go figure…I think it was Farley Mowat who said “Earth is the Insane Asylum of the Universe”. That’s sort of become my mantra unfortunately.
Best regards,
Pat
